Mission Statement

Interprovincial Advocacy
and Social Justice Committee

The Daughters of Charity of the USA have joined forces to form an Advocacy and Social Justice Committee

Our Mission Statement

We promote social justice as central to all Daughter of Charity ministry. We move together with persons who are poor and marginalized from reflection to advocacy for systemic change.

Working in collaboration with other groups is important to us and we are a part of many organizations whose goals are systemic change for the poor and marginalized in our country and in impoverished countries around the world.

We are a member of the Sisters of Charity NGO and have ECOSOC status at the United Nations. There we work with other groups who are trying to eliminate poverty. Our goal for the next three years is to work on access to water for impoverished countries.

We support the International Vincentian Family Initiative: Globalization of Charity: the Fight against Hunger. We work to decrease hunger in our country and around the world.

We work closely with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and their Voice of the Poor Committee. We concentrate on national issues that affect those who are poor.

Join us in helping to change the systems that keep people on the margins from the basics of life: food, water, shelter, health care, work.

Goals and Action Plans 2008

 1. Continue education and advocacy on issues of access to food and water nationally and internationally.
 2. Responding to the request of the Visitatrixes at the December 2007 meeting in Mexico, ASJC will communicate with the U.S. and Mexican members of the DC Task Forces on Immigration and Trafficking to define strategies to prioritize education and advocacy on issues of immigration and trafficking.
 3. Use "Faithful Citizenship" for voter education, focusing especially on how candidates respond to persons in poverty.
 4. Collaborate for the purpose of promoting justice and systemic change:
  a. Invite local persons to share their stories and to educate us during local meetings.
  b. Encourage DCs to look for opportunities to collaborate with the Vincentian Family and other groups with the same charism, especially in concrete projects with NETWORK, Bread for the World, Ascension Health, CHA, Catholic Charities and Pax Christi.
