the Daughters of Charity resulted in expansion to the United States in 1850. At that time, they officially united with the Sisters of

Who Heads Each Province?
A Visitatrix guides each Province. Her chief responsibility is to assure that the mission and spirit of the Company are
present in each ministry in which we serve. She also animates the concern for those persons who are poor.
Each Visitatrix is assisted in her work by the Provincial Council, which is made up of Sisters appointed to advise her
on governing the Province.
Who Is the International Head of the Daughters of Charity?
The international head of the Daughters of Charity is called the Superioress General. She lives in the Daughters of
Charity Motherhouse in Paris, France. Since its origin, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission has also
helped the Daughters of Charity maintain their charism and carry out their mission in the church.
