Living In Community

The primary call of the Daughters of Charity is to serve Jesus Christ in the person of the poor.

Their founders, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac, encouraged the Sisters to view the poor as their lords and masters and to treat them with respect and devotion. Both in direct and indirect service, the poor have always been the focus of the Daughters of Charity ministries.

In keeping with the spirit of Vincent and Louise, the Sisters assist those in need and call upon others to help them to do this. As a worldwide Community, the Daughters are familiar with all forms of poverty.

The Daughters of Charity have always been recognized as women who stand with the poor, both in assisting them directly and in becoming advocates for societal change.
